Adaptation for Voice and Piano


This song by a young English author, Joan Smith, was awarded the second prize at the 4th World Youth and Student Festival in Bucharest in 1953.

Shostakovich’s author’s manuscript was dated 28 August 1953. The adaptation was first printed in the music appendix to the journal Sovetskaya muzyka, No. 10 of 1953 with a translation of the text by Lev Ozerov.
